Metropolitan Winds
The mission of Metropolitan Winds is to enhance the sense of community and foster music appreciation in the area through regular performances of the world’s great music, and to provide area musicians the opportunity to collaborate with friends, express themselves artistically and pursue a favorite hobby.
Metropolitan Winds performs a variety of concert literature from American band classics to classical orchestral arrangements. A specialty of Metropolitan Winds is the performance of film scores. They have played two well-received concerts of the music of John Williams, including the symphonic suites from Star Wars and Superman as well as works from Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. They have also performed a selection of band transcriptions for the music from Disney’s Fantasia, and have featured film composer Bruce Broughton as a guest artist, conducting wind transcriptions of the suite from Silverado and other selections from Broughton scores.
