Registration Now Open for the Dallas Arts District’s Free Art in Motion Processional

Proceeds to Benefit Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts; Mark’s Kick Off of The Dallas Arts District’s Art in October 2011

September 20, 2011 – The Dallas Arts District announces today open registration for the Art in Motion processional which takes place on Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District at 10:00 a.m. on October 1, 2011.  To register today, visit www.thedallasartsdistrict.org/aim.

The Art in Motion processional is for bikes, strollers, or any creative mode of transportation that is fully human powered!  Create your masterpiece at home, or bring your creativity and arrive early to use free art supplies which will be set up at One Arts Plaza beginning at 9:00 a.m. on October 1, 2011.   The best-decorated entries will be eligible to win fun prizes and bragging rights!

The Art in October Opening Celebration presented by Cadillac which features the Art in Motion processional also includes free museum admission, events, food, fun and frivolity.  For a full list of events during the Art in October Opening Celebration and details of events throughout the month of celebration visit www.TheDallasArtsDistrict.org/ArtInOctober .

Highlights surrounding Art in Motion include:

8:30 a.m. – Jorge’s Breakfast Service Begins (A percentage of breakfast sales donated to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts)

9:00 a.m. – Registration, check-in and bike decorating for Art in Motion

10:00 a.m. – Procession from One Arts Plaza begins; Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Collection of Asian Art and Nasher Sculpture Center open (FREE admission)

10:15a.m. – Processional arrives at museums (bike check available)

11:00 a.m. – Food trucks open on Flora Street

The Art in Motion processional is presented by The Dallas Observer; the Art in October Opening Celebration is presented by Cadillac.

About Art in October

Art in October features more than 170 events, many free or at a reduced price, during the month of October on Flora Street in Downtown Dallas.  The month-long Art celebration of the Dallas Arts District spotlights the district’s organizations, venues, exhibitions and programs with a variety of events while raising the bar from last year’s successes.  Art in October 2011 is a diverse mix of stunning district-wide exhibitions and community-oriented elements designed to entertain and engage audiences of all ages.

October is a significant time for the Dallas Arts District; it is the anniversary of the opening of the AT & T Performing Arts Center and the Nasher Sculpture Center, it is the start of the season for groups like The Dallas Opera and new exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art are frequently previewed during the month.  October is also National Arts and Humanities Month, providing a national as well as a regional cause for celebration.

Art in October Spotlight Days throughout the month include: October 1 – OPENING CELEBRATION PRESENTED BY CADILLAC; October 8 – DANCEAFRICA; October 9 – SIXTH ANNUAL FIESTA LATINOAMERICANA!; October 21 —FRIDAY NIGHT ARTS; October 27 – SACRED SPACES OF THE ARTS DISTRICT TOUR ; October 28 – AURORA; and October 30 – CLOSING CELEBRATION.

The Dallas Arts District organizations participating in this celebration include: The AT&T Performing Arts Center, Booker T. High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Dallas Center for Architecture, Dallas Film Society, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Opera, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Theater Center, Nasher Sculpture Center, and TITAS.
