Holiday Shopping Series: Classes at Dallas Black Dance Academy

As you probably already know, there are lots of educational opportunities within the Dallas Arts District—kid friendly activities at the museums, summer camps with our performing arts organizations, then of course, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. But, did you know that our neighborhood houses it’s very on dance academy at Dallas Black Dance Theatre? No? Well, then Part 7 of our Holiday Shopping Series, classes at the Dallas Black Dance Academy, is for you!

Started in 1974 (in fact, it’s actually older than the dance company itself ) by DBDT founder Ann Williams, the academy is located in the former Moorland YMCA at the East end of Flora Street, behind One Arts Plaza. The academy “emphasizes that through directed dance studies in a learning environment, the mind is disciplined to control one’s total body in making better decisions for life and developing self-esteem.” It offers classes to all ages and levels as well as yoga for adults and mother and child beginners classes.

Classes offered:

Serious students interested in professional dancing can potentially have the opportunity to audition for Dallas Black Dance II (semi-pro), and then even the main company!

This is one of those gifts that’ll pay off for years to come. Find out about registering for classes here.
